Steve Harper continues to teach spiritual formation and Wesley studies to Christian divinity students for more than 35 years. He is a native of Texas, graduating in 1966 from Haskell High School and McMurry University in Abilene in 1970. He received his MDiv from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1973, and the PhD in Wesley studies from Duke University in 1981.
Across the years, Dr. Harper’s ministries have included youth minister, evangelist, pastor, professor, and seminary administrator. He and his wife Jeannie oversaw A Foundation for Theological Education, and they cofounded Shepherd’s Care, a ministry to ministers. Steve served as dean of the chapel and director of the Pathways Initiative at The Upper Room in Nashville.
Steve Harper received his license to preach in The Methodist Church in 1965, became a deacon in The United Methodist Church in 1971 and an elder in 1974. He has held membership in the Northwest Texas Annual Conference and the Florida Annual Conference.
Steve has authored seventeen books, coauthored another thirteen, and written numerous articles. He speaks frequently in local churches, conferences, and retreats. He and Jeannie have been married since 1970. They are the parents of two children, and they have three grandchildren.
